About the Course
This training event prepares the attendee to meet the challenges of preparing a Texas Medicaid Cost Report.
The Texas Medicaid Cost Report is used by Texas state government agencies to gather statistical and financial information for the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). The information is used in developing rates that are paid to licensed agencies (Providers) caring for Medicaid clients confined to their homes, but needing various health care services. The use of these services has helped keep this population out of the more costly hospitals, while letting them stay in their homes or with family.
The Medicaid Cost Report is an important tool that lets HHSC know how much money was spent on providing health care services to state residents. Cost Reports show certain information used to calculate the rate's paid to Providers.
This training is a 2 hour, intensive course for all preparers of Medicaid Cost Reports. It will give the preparer an idea as to what Auditors look for in a completed report. The point of the training is to give you, the preparer, ways to prepare the cost report so that once completed, you will not receive phone calls and emails from Auditors asking for information that will take your time away from other clients and other work that you do.
The main objective of this training will be to inform you of what Auditors are looking for during their audit of the Cost Report and give you insight into the analysis and preparation from their point of view. We will also cover the various methods of the Cost Allocation process and how to maximize your clients' reimbursement dollars. The other area we will concentrate on is the Provider's Financial Statements. This is the most important piece of the cost reporting puzzle. Mistakes here will cause Auditors to call you and request additional information, so it is important that the financials be correct and in the right format.
Last, we will cover the actual Cost Report preparation and the different components of the State of Texas Automated Information Reporting System (STAIRS) cost report. You will learn how the different schedules work, how to import the correct information and where and the flow of the individual schedules trace back to the various cost report sections. Hopefully, we will have time for questions and answers.
Please join us for this informative and eye-opening training based on the Auditor's viewpoint and backed by experience over years of both preparing and auditing Medicaid Cost Reports.
