The PCAOB board dictates the professional standards and rules that registered auditing firms must use when providing services to a SEC registered entity. These standards and rules are the criteria used to monitor accounting firms performance on each audit engagement. The PCAOB has codified the auditing standards that they have adopted over the past sixteen years. This codification has a single, integrated numbering system.
The PCAOB is required to establish or adopt, or both, auditing, quality control, ethics, independence, and other standards relating to the preparation of audit reports for public companies, in accordance with Section 103 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
